Summer Simon

The first of four children, Summer was raised in the Wollongong area on the South Coast of NSW.
Summer along with brother Taj, sister Bodhi and father Mark have found a love of surfing up and down the coast sharing waves together.
At just 15, Summer was recently recognised through her surfing achievements and was one of 4 finalist in the National Dreamtime Awards.
Summer represents herself and the Aboriginal surfing community with pride and is greatly honoured by this achievement.

Summer is well liked amongst her peers at school and within the community. She is an all round sportswoman involved in soccer, oztag, athletics, surf lifesaving and cross country but her focus is on Surfing. Coming from a family of sports men and women, Summer was bound to find herself involved in the sporting arena but it was the love of the ocean that drew her towards surfing. Summer attends Illawarra Sports High, currently in year 11 and part of the Talented Sports and Development Program for Surfing. The coaching, training and other guidance in this program, along with lengthy trips to Bali every year has seen great development in her surfing over the last couple of years.

Summer has won the open women Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles at Bells Beach the last four years (2015-2018). She has also won other Indigenous competitions at Fingal Head on the Tweed Coast at Juraki Surf and Culture and Wandiyali Surfest event which is part of Newcastle’s Surfest. These events have given her great exposure and experience. Summer has surfed in the WSL Juraki Teams event which is part of the opening to the Quiksilver/Roxy Pro at Snapper Rocks the last two years. Summer  was also part of the nation wide Layne Beachley Surf Camp at the Surfing Australia HPC.

Summer has also had success at NSW State titles, 5th(2017). Billabong Occy Grom Comp, 5th (2017) and Open Womens Australian Surf Masters in Coffs Harbour, 7th (2016).

Summer is a great young surfer that has great board control and power. Summer handles all conditions with confidence but is more comfortable in the bigger conditions. Whether it be small waves/big waves, she can adapt with her variety of turns, power and flow.
